Land of Skilled Embroiderers
A rich and distinctive region where costumes lasted longer than in other parts of Central Bohemia. Mladoboleslavsko Region was somewhat farther from Prague, so urban influences did not penetrate as quickly — preserving various specificities not found in different regions.
For example, the red Kosmonosy kerchieves are named after the famous printing house in Kosmonosy. Women favoured them for their vibrant colours. The Mladoboleslavsko Region was also home to many renowned embroiderers. Each specialized in different parts of clothing or types of embroidery. Typical were the small caps embroidered with gold thread. And the patterns? They were mainly flat, delicate, and artistically composed. Often, garnets were embedded in them. Women and girls also wore these around their necks.
Skilled women could create ornaments full of flowers with unusual ease and grace. They spread across the entire fabric. And embroiderers had to be patient at work! The sides of the blankets were often up to a meter and a half long. A typical element was a wavy band with various fillings, which ran above the headscarf’s edges.
