Tradition in Images
Code: 1919Product detailed description
Take a fascinating journey through fourteen regions of the Czech Republic, from Cheb, through Prague and its surroundings to Doudleby, through beautiful photographs. Travel back in time to a time when women plucked feathers on long winter evenings and men showed off their clothes during traditional songs. Go on a pilgrimage with them, learn about forgotten crafts. Discover what even a small detail, such as a tiny lace, can reveal about our rich history.
Photographer Václav Šilha and a team of authors have created a unique record of Czech history and folk culture. Through images and text, they tell the stories of costumes and how significant historical events have shaped their appearance. Why did some men in the upper Chodsko region wear hats with black ribbons and women embroidered black rectangles on their shirts, the so-called mourning caps, from the end of the 17th century? And what is the connection with the death of Jan Sladký Kozina, the leader of the Chod rebellion? Get ready for an exciting search for the meanings of various items of clothing, from aprons to coats.
The aim of the book is to present not only Czech folk costumes, but also the stories, customs and songs associated with them. That is why OSA, z.s. is involved in the project, not only publishing the book, but also enriching it with interactivity in the form of songs and dances, which will undoubtedly enhance the overall experience. Just scan the QR code inside the book and a whole gallery of regions will open up.
The book is published on the occasion of the 105th anniversary of OSA, z.s..
Due to its exceptional cultural contribution, the book was published under the auspices of Mgr Martin Baxa, Minister of Culture of the Czech Republic.
